Job Title: ESTIMATOR

The purpose of an Estimator is to provide an efficient quality/profitable estimate on time with a clear descriptive of scope of work to our external/internal customers. It is expected that each Estimator works with the utmost integrity/honesty.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION (to include, but not limited to):

  • Meeting Attendance & Preparation: (Hand-off, Kick-off, Quality, Etc.)
  • Log in new jobs and place the in order of importance.
  • Keep current on all vendor pricing (Joist, Deck, SSR, Components, Wide flange, & Tube Pricing and Availability.
  • Help to schedule material and Fabrication with committee.
  • Identify and understand the scope of work for the specific project.
  • Communicate with the salesman and/or customer.
  • Solicit material quotes as required by providing Vendors w/clear directive.
  • Work closely with engineering group to develop quote engineering.
  • Coordinate the transmittal of documents with document control.
  • Perform personal review of every estimate.
  • Accurate
  • Meet quote submittal dates/times as requested by sales/customers.
  • Transfer all pertinent quote information to the Project Manager group
  • Complete change orders in a timely manner as directed by the PM’s
  • Update on a daily basis the Job List In Estimating & Public folders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 year specific experience with structural steel estimating, or related field in structural steel fabrication or production is preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic Knowledge of and ability to use Algebra and Geometry.
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Good English skills.  Able to speak, read, write and understand.
  • Strong Math/Geometry skills
  • Proficient at working on multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to visualize the end product.
  • Capacity to make independent decisions.
  • Computer – Microsoft windows, Word, and strong background in Excel.
  • Knowledge of Pre-engineered building industry.

Job Title: DESIGN ENGINEER

Responsible for all or a portion of the steel design of buildings and structures that are safe and meet applicable codes, with a focus on an economical design.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:

  • Fully understand the requirements of his/her job and the systems that support engineering.
  • Supply calculations and design information to Drafting, Detailing and Plan Verification departments as required.  Information shall be supplied according to standardized formats where applicable.
  • Learn and remain current on the latest applicable codes and industry standards that pertain to the engineering work to be performed.
  • Work to improve the processes used in the Engineering Department.
  • Responsible for the review and overall quality of the design drawings and engineering calculations.
  • May review, stamp and seal calculations and drawings as assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining and ensuring engineering licenses are current and in good standing as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
  • Responsible for furthering his/her education through study and/or attending courses and seminars as approved by the Engineering Manager.
  • Responsible for following the Engineering Code of Ethics and all applicable laws and regulations
  • May give direction to Junior Design Engineers and Engineering Technicians as required.
  • Participate and cooperate with every department while enthusiastically advocating teamwork and frequent communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fully understand the requirements of his/her job and the systems that support engineering.
  • Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or other related field degree or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Four or more years of progressively responsible related experience in engineering.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer.
  • Knowledge of structural steel design. 
  • Knowledge of building codes especially the International Building Code (IBC).
  • Understanding and applicability of AISC Specifications including AISC Seismic Provisions.
  • Excellent work ethic
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members and customers
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Good English skills.  Able to speak, read and understand.
  • Computer skills – Excel, Outlook, Word and finite element modeling programs.
  • Ability to prepare engineering calculations.
  • Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.

Job Title: DRILL LINE OPERATOR

GEM Buildings is currently seeking a Drill Line Operator to cut beams to specified length with straight cuts or miter cuts and drill holes in proper locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Cut all pieces to correct length either with a straight cut or a miter
• Change out drilling bits to match hole sizes that are specified in the drawings and on the program
• Transfer (piece marks, heat numbers, size, grade, center marks, job name and whether they are for fabrication or holes only) from steel to the cut list and vice versa
• Periodic machine calibration
• Change saw blades when worn and mix and add more coolant when needed

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED:
Drill Line Operator reports and receives instructions from Cut-n-Prep lead and Shop Manager

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Basic computer skills
• Basic understanding of fabrication drawings
• Band saw experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
• Able to multi-task
• Have the ability to check own work in a timely manner
• A good understanding of drill line operations
• Able to be trained on the proper use of transfer tables
• Reading and writing skills required for position
• Able to use several types of measuring tools (Tape measure, squares, etc.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
• Employee may be required to lift, push, pull and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
• Able to work in extreme weather conditions (hot and cold)
• Work involves walking, talking, hearing and good vision. It will also involve frequent bending, squatting and kneeling
• The work environment is noisy so hearing protection is required

Job Title: STRUCTURAL DETAILER

 

GEM Buildings is currently seeking a Structural Detailer with experience detailing structural and miscellaneous steel components. The ideal candidate will be able to create detailed fabrication drawings for structural steel components from architectural and structural design plans. Experience using SDS/2 software is highly preferred. Candidates must have a strong working knowledge of detailing design standards and guidelines for AISC steel construction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Knowledge of AISC steel construction detailing design standards and guidelines

• Detail oriented

Job Title: FABRICATOR

GEM Buildings is currently seeking hard working, dependable Fabricators. Standard work schedule will be from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Saturday. Fabricator job duties include cutting out, positioning, and piecing together structural metal parts, following precise instructions before welding. Must read and understand engineering specs supplied by manuals, diagrams, and computerized drafting programs. Fabricators also have to utilize many unique tools and precision measuring instruments. Overtime required depending on workload.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Must be able to pass a 2G horizontal weld test using the GMAW process
• Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings
• Understanding of welding principles and practices
• Ability to use squares, measuring tapes, mag drills, grinders, and other hand tools required for fabrication
• Able to fit up and weld pieces for fabrication
• Able to lift up to 75 lbs. and stand for long periods of time
