Employment Opportunities
Welder / Fabricator
Job Summary-
Fit-up and weld all items needed for specified work order. Such as (wide flange columns and beams, tube columns, beams, pipe, angle frames, embeds, etc.)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities-
· Follow all of Gem’s safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
· Understand all weld symbols and weld procedures needed to produce sound welds and a quality product.
· Read and understand fabrication drawings, and using them to build a defect free product.
· Prep all parts required for piece, removing mill scale for welding, debur all holes and sharp edges. Make all layout marks needed for fit-up.
· Fit-up and tack all parts to the main member. Call for an inspector to check dimensions and fit-up before welding.
· After all welding is complete check for missing or nonconforming welds and repair them. Clean off any oil, weld spatter, or scale and square up all plates before sending piece to final inspection.
· Maintain a well kept work area and keep all equipment in good working order.
· Report any safety infractions or faulty equipment to shop lead.
Supervision Received and Exercised-
Fabrication reports and receives instructions from Shop Lead and Shop Manager.
Knowledge Skills and Ability Requirements
· Must have at least 1 year fit-up and welding experience
· Pass at least a 2G welding test( Pre-employment)
· Pass a lay-out and fit-up test. Must be done the correct way and in a timely manner ( Pre-employment)
· Able to read and understand fabrication drawings
· Able to use all tools and equipment needed in fabrication process. Magdrills, overhead cranes, carbon air arc, torches, grinders, squares, and tape measures (periodic re-training will be required)
· Must be able to pass OSHA forklift training program
· Able to operate jib cranes in a safe manner(Training will be required experienced or not for proper material handling)
Physical Requirements-
The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
· Employee may be required to lift, push, pull and carry objects up to 75 pounds
· Able to work in extreme weather conditions ( hot and cold)
· Able to stand for long periods of time
· Work involves walking, talking, hearing, and good vision. It will also involve frequent bending, squatting and kneeling.
· The work environment is noise so hearing protection is required.
